Germany-Argentina in Cape Town

In part of a long string of incredible good fortune, I picked the right straw (or leaf with a hole in it) to go with Malusi to see Germany play Argentina in a quarter-final match in Cape Town. So deluxe.

Argentina got worked 4-0 like a bunch of rookies, but it was still a great game to see.
View from our seats. We missed the first goal, because we are idiots and are unable to get anywhere on time. All three of the other goals happened at the other end of the field, but we could see enough.
Lionel Messi. Wasn't really able to do too much in the tournament, but he's still an amazingly talented player and it's incredible to watch him.
Diego Maradona. What a character. We had a cocaine party with him after the match (completely untrue).
Dave the Optimist was there. He found the bright side.
Cool fan signs all over the stadium

Wow.

Some more shots of what went down in Cape Town.

They light up Table Mountain at night, which is both odd and really awesome.

Malusi's nephew, Lutando. A true champion.
Lutando and Uncle AJ.
Me and the boys had a fancy fish dinner at a restaurant in Camps Bay, a classy beachfront neighborhood in Cape Town. We had king clip, salmon, swordfish, calamari, and one other type of fish that I don't remember. It was an epic meal.
The view from a spot we stayed in Camps Bay. I woke up to this. Silly.
View from the back. Whoa.
Cool signs at a food spot.
This is bunny chow, a Cape Town specialty. It's basically a big chunk of bread filled with meat and gravy. I had mutton and it filled me for the rest of the day.
Nice Nelson shirt. Will try to come up on one of these.
Look at this idiot (not Omar). Won't try to come up on one of these shirts.
The sun sets into the Atlantic.

Soccer Silliness in Cape Town

Here are a few more shots of Cape Town, and the madness resulting from its World Cup hosting duties.

Green Point Stadium at night.
People on the Fan Walk, a 1.6 mile pedestrianized road connecting downtown Cape Town to the stadium.

Nice skirt.
Watching the Netherlands-Uruguay semi-final match in a bar with a bunch of Dutch people.
Slick salesmanship.
The Oranje fans of the Netherlands let their orange pride show after the game with this smoke bomb. This cop was pretty confused.
Cool neon signs in downtown Cape Town.

Rad name for a bar, and cool drawing.
Viewing area inside some warehouse. Cool place to watch the game. They also had a half-pipe, and a ping pong table, which I dominated. Kinda.

Cape Town: Not Bad

The other day, me and my buds went up to check out Lion's Head, one of the iconic mountains in Cape Town. As we were leaving, we ran across some hikers who had hiked to the peak and back. We asked them how it was at the top. One of the guys responded, very calmly, that it was "not bad".

Not bad. Maybe the biggest understatement I've heard in a while.

Here are some pictures of Cape Town's not-bad scenery.

Out of the front door. Can see most of the 12 Apostles mountain peaks from his front steps.

Not bad, I guess.

Hello Cape Town

Just got to Cape Town a few days ago and have really enjoyed the city. It's really beautiful. Probably going to be here for about a week and a half, so I should be able to see a lot.
Table Mountain.
Town.
The Cable car that goes up to the top of Table Mountain.
Activity of Long Street, one of the more active streets in town. Lots of bars, and lots of tourists.

Stumbled upon tickets to the Spain-Portugal round of 16 match at Green Point Stadium. This was a road leading up to the stadium, full of fans.
Green Point Stadium has a pretty cool design.

These zebra guys were official fans of the night.
